I had considered buying one as a pre-amp for my stage model.   There are a few people who make what they claim to be the best knock off of the EP-3.   Instead I bought a Vintage 47 preamp which touted itself as really clean.  However, the switch on it gives a loud "thunk" when you step on it. 

I was thinking of trying this one by Orbit Electronics/Tonykrank:

He seems to think he's got the best one available, based on his understanding of the circuit and quality of his components. I've checked out their Psychoplex pedal, which is supposed to emulate an Echoplex, and it's pretty great sounding

How much is the Dunlop?  Orbit's is about $80.

Lately I have been taking a break from effect pedals. I picked up a 1965 Fender Showman (which has a nice 15" JBL in the cab). It sounds heavenly and anything I put in front of it only takes away from the tone of the rhodes. My tape delays (Roland RE201 and Univox 80a) have been sitting off to the side getting minimal use. I am not trying to say I do not enjoy these effects, I am really fond of both. It is rather that even with a dry signal going through you do notice the tone being "robbed."
I have yet to play a real Echoplex but have heard they too can suck tone (although do have a nice characteristic preamp). Therefore I wonder how much a preamp pedal designed to emulate an EP3 may take away from a fender rhodes tone...

I agree, the Rhodes sounds at its very best with no effects added.

However I'm finding that the Rhodes get 'lost' in the overall band sound, despite the volume being quite high. I wonder if this type of pre amp would give the Rhodes more 'prescence'?
