music stands for rhodes?
« on: April 22, 2014, 03:35:00 PM »

what is everyone using to hold music on top of the curved plastic surface on the rhodes? ( well I have a stage model, not sure about the suitcase )

does anyone make a music stand attachment for these?

I'm getting tired of stacking books etc to hold things up there, and sheets sliding around

thx!

I bought one of these from Amazon and I've been really happy with it:

http://www.amazon.com/Manhasset-5301-Table-Top-Std/dp/B0002E3AHY/ref=sr_1_12?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1398200259&sr=1-12&keywords=manhasset+music+stand

It has rubber feet on both the back leg and the bottom of the edge, so I've had no problems with scratching the top or the stand sliding around on the curved top.  When I bought my second Rhodes, I was going to order another one until I found a big sheet of 1/4 Plexiglass laying around the shop.  I used the same design and dimensions, but made it from clear acrylic.  Looks pretty cool and it's a bit different.

I have one of those, too, which travels between my keyboards that lack music stands. Great product. I also am very pleased with a Manhasset floor stand I own. They make very high quality, durable products that are used by many symphony orchestras. It's a small employee-owned company in Washington State that's been around for many years.

I know this is an old post but I just bought one of these stands because of the thread. It’s not clear me how it’s supposed to stay fixed on top of a Rhodes. As far as I can tell, it’s quite precarious and even turning the page on sheet music cause it to fall off.

Am I missing something ?

I can see how you might have this issue, especially if you are using a heavy book.

You just need to add something that will grip -- rather than slide -- on the slick Rhodes lid.  Suggestions:  Maybe place a grippy rubber mat between the Rhodes lid and the stand. Or replace the felt pads on the underside of the stand with something like these: https://www.lowes.com/pd/SoftTouch-Gripper-Anti-Skid-6-Pack-1-in-x-4-in-Black-Plastic-Pads/1000372607 . Fitting one of these pads on the bottom of the vinyl tip that covers the tube might help, too.

I've had good luck putting a clip board in the gap on the name rail.  The ciip holds the page upright, and gravity keeps the board in the gap.
Not great for page turning, but fine for holding up the chart of whatever tune I'm currently working on.
Thought about drilling out the rivet on the clip and mounting it to a larger piece of plexiglass or 1/8" wood... Another project to do during the corona quarantine.
