tonebar buzzing against harp bracket
« on: January 20, 2015, 01:44:02 PM »
Does anybody have a remedy for this one aside from removing the harp bracket?

Barbaric but always works, one hammer hit of the bracket in the direction away from the offending tonebar takes care of it.  Unless the tonebar on the other side is hitting as well.  Check if either of the tonebar screws are bent, and if so - use to your advantage and screw it until the tonebar rotates furthest away.

Yeah, don't do that.  The vast majority of VV's advice is good, but that one is a notable exception.

What's worked for me is to fold a tiny piece of paper and put it in between the harp support and the rear of the offending tone bar. No more buzzing and it hasn't affected the tone of the note (well not to my ears anyway).

This is what I did when I first got my Rhodes back in 2006, and that same piece of paper has been sitting there ever since. Works like a charm!
