I just received a custom made bass piano from Vintage Vibes but would like to be able to use it as a MIDI for a synth also.  My plan would be to mix synth bass and effects in with the VV bass.

I would like recommendations on MIDI kits that are quality and worth getting.

Also I have heard of  B2m which is a bass to midi converter that only costs about 70 bucks could something like this work?

Didn't they give you the option for installation of the pianoscan/midi9 installation? That's usually an add-on with their pianos as far as I know... This is an optical system that was designed for acoustic pianos that can be installed in Wurlitzers, Rhodes, and even supposedly Hammond organs... We have installed them on Wurlitzer and Rhodes pianos and have serviced their tine piano with the same system in it. It's a great system because it is incredibly responsive and does not interfere with the action of the instrument in any way.

No-- for some reason Chris said he no longer works directly with any MIDI people.  I asked him if I bought a MIDI separately how much  he would charge to install it and he said between 800-1000 dollars on the install not including the MIDI unit.  I called around here in SLC and found a woman piano technician that was familiar with Rhodes and she said she would do it for about 300 bucks.....

Could you tell me the name of the company you recommend for MIDI.   I am still thinking pretty seriously about having it done.

I should also mention that the woman who quoted me the price has never done it before and I am not sure about the quality of her work....

My Rhodes has got an optical midi system in made by staedler electro. It has poly aftertouch too. Not used the midi9 pnoscan system but heard it's good. Strange that vv will still fit it but don't offer it as an option. A Rhodes

What did you system cost?  T9 was like 1200-1300 dollars or so.

MIDI9 pnoscan - I have a suitcase 88 with this, and after careful installation and software set up it's spot on.  As mentioned, being optical it doesn't increase the resistance of the action with nipple switches under the keys or other direct contact methods.

The kit was $1200 as well if I recall.

Staedler Electro = Waldorf

It's a bit sad that the Waldorf guys didn't continue the Rhodes Mk7 MIDI as a stand alone unit for retrofit. Still having some tracking problems here and there, it's much more easy to use for the user that the PNOSCan, because you don't have to hook up a PC to make changes to the system. All adjustments can be done via the display and Encoder on the unit itself.
