Re-tolexing without templates/old tolex...

I don't have the old tolex from my 73 key Rhodes.  It was taken off and refinished with the natural wood look.     Are there any good resources out there for a good pattern/measurements?  The VV video is based on having your old tolex for templating.  Thanks!

I've quit using the old pieces as templates. I do still use the sides as the roughest of templates but they don't serve any more purpose than a quick couple of measurements would. Particularly with the side pieces, I cut them too large and trim after they're installed.

They say you can do a Seventy Three with only four yards and if that's what you're going for, you'll need to be much more precise with your initial cuts than I am.

Thanks Dave.  Yeah, I just ordered 4 yards of custom olive tweed tolex from Mojotone.   Its pricey, $33 a yard.  I thought 4 yards had some wiggle room but I'll be extra careful based on what you're saying!

Thanks

I have this and though it's pretty basic, I think it's going to be the best guide I can get.  There's no measurements or anything but it will have to work.  I appreciate it!

No need for the original pieces as templates. Just measure out the places you need and add a couple inches of slack. After you place the pieces you can easily cut away the slack and rub away any glue residue that is left behind.

For the instructions you posted I would recommend doing step 4 in the order (A & C), (B & D), E, F, G.

I made my measurements by using some masking tape. I found this video really useful when doing mine.

That video is very detailed!  Thanks to all for the tips and suggestions.  I ordered my Tweed Tolex yesterday and will keep everyone posted.  Keep the ideas coming if you have any more.  Thanks!
