Any tricks for shipping the older/heavier wurlitzers (120, 140, 145, etc). They never come up locally for sale so I am trying to figure out an affordable way to ship one across Canada that would involve minimal work for a seller...

I would speak to a local shipping company, like UPS or one of the smaller places that will pack for you and deals with multiple shipping companies. They can compare the exact costs for you. Don't forget to insure it too.
You should pass the cost on to the buyer or at least split the cost.

I won a large statue once that I didn't want, and had to sell it on eBay. I couldn't drive it the 200 miles to the buyer, but my local shipping company was able to find a reasonable way to ship it, and it arrived safely.

I don't recommend trying to pack and ship it yourself unless you have professional packing/shipping experience. It takes a lot of bubble wrap- packing peanuts are a no no with heavy items like this. The piano can shift around in the box and find its way to a corner of the box and get damaged.

It's maybe not the cheapest option, but you could order a built-to-order flightcase and have it shipped directly to the seller. Some companies build these cases almost cheaper than what you could build the for yourself. That would give you peace in mind and you could use it for gigging later on.

The legs do screw out on the 1-series models, right?

Yes,on most early models, the legs are the same size and same thread as the later models, but they are wood, not metal
