I have a set of teardrop hammers, from this project: http://ep-forum.com/smf/index.php?topic=9220.msg50228#msg50228... Can these be restored? Or perhaps converted to hybrid wood / plastic hammers?

The hammer heads are shot. They are beyond filing and reusing because the felt on the crown is worn almost down to the wood core. As for the shanks, you may be able to put hybrid plastic heads on them if you can remove the old heads without breaking them, but it would be a big job with probably very little payoff. You may be able to sell them as is if someone else wants to remove the felt heads and attempt to add the plastic heads, or for replacement parts if they need any wooden shanks for their current piano.

I've actually seen neoprene tips glued to the front of hammers like these.  Not pretty, but I suppose it could work.  If it were me, I'd wait for one of the many trashed pianos that turn up on craigslist and the like.
I have a Student Model much like this, that I one day plan to stuff a later model Mk I with flat top keys into.
