Sorry, again I am new to this but is stereo tremolo on a Fender Twin so that I would have to get a preamp on my Rhodes? Or is it mono Tremolo/Vibrato.
There are demos with guitars but they only use the mono line.
Thank you!

The Twin Reverb does not have stereo tremolo.  With its 2 speakers mounted so close together, there would no stereo information even if it did.

The speakers are close together in an older Rhodes suitcase, and the stereo effect is pretty prominent.(to the player)
If you were playing a stereo source such as an iPod through them, then yes it wouldn't sound much different than mono, but with the ping ping tremolo, you still hear it. But, that's a little off topic...

This amp seems to have stereo tremolo.

There must be others but I don't know about them.

There was a thread a few weeks ago about a company who makes an amp which, if I recall clearly, replicates the bottom part of a suitcase Rhodes. That thread might have been on Keyboard corner though.

I'm not so sure about that.  The pianist might hear it because he/she is very close to the speakers.  However, remember that there's another effect with the stereo tremolo--as the sound pans back and forth between the speakers, the total sound power varies.  Therefore, there's a mono tremolo effect as well.  I strongly suspect that once you're 10 to 20 feet away from the piano, most of what you're hearing is the mono tremolo.

I meant for the player, not for the audience.... I don't play out anymore so I wasn't thinking about what an audience would hear. Sorry.

Patrick, I meant that my answer was slightly off topic, not you!

Hahaha yes. I think stereo tremolo could also be best experienced on headphones??

Thank you all!

Gents,

I find the stereo tremolo effect is intensified tremendously when using headphones, but not in a nice way.... The effect is very defined with headphones, especially if it's just the Rhodes you are listening to. It's probably not so bad if you are playing along t a backing track.

Personally I find it's almost mind bending, but hey, some cats may really like the intense ping pong action!!

Kind regards
Julian

My friends and I call that "headache stereo" ....like trying to listen to early stereo such as The Beatles with instruments in one channel and vocals in the other. Sounds ok on speakers, but not in headphones!
