Baldwin Electropiano - Experimental?

Hello all!

I'm brand new to the forum. I picked up a Baldwin Electropiano from Goodwill for 90 cents. I have been learning to tune pianos. I've always been an electronics tinkerer. This sounded like fun.

I tuned it up (no easy task). I recently moved it into my home office for further tinkering. In the process I found a stencil on the underside of the keyboard that reads "Experiment Piano Not For Resale".

This seems a little unusual to me. Does anyone have any insight for me?

Beautiful! I'm sure it's worth a bit more than what you purchased it for! I have seen others listed in the past that look very much like yours, so I'm not sure what the stamp is about. To me it definitely adds to the cool factor. One similar to it was listed on fleabay as a piano formerly used by the group STYX. Hopefully someone will know the significance of the stamp on your piano and enlighten us. Thanks for sharing!

Just looked back at some of the images I had. The ones I have seen have multiple 6x9? Speakers instead of the two round speakers you have. I think the model number was different as well. I'll look through my pics to see if I can find the model number of the ones I have seen.

This must be one of the earlier ones. The stuff I read says that the earlier models have 3 strings per note for all but the baritone/base strings. I sent a message to Baldwin through their web site. I'm hoping there's still someone there who might know a little company history.

AFAIK, Baldwin is out of business, but maybe someone will answer questions for you. My guess is that it was an early prototype for showrooms to demonstrate maybe?

I already had the same model, 1 string per note!
Sounds weird, kind of electric harp on the mid-high, and weird bass for the lowest octaves. Pretty easy to tune, you got a good deal for it, i paid 100$ for mine in 2009.

Interesting. You must have had one of the later models. From what I've read, the earlier models had 3 strings per not except for the baritone/bass section while the later models had only one string per note through the entire scale. Is yours 88 keys?

Yeah 88! I already seen the 3 strings model, but never played one!
I think it's another model, a Music Store recently give one out in Montreal (3 string model) but I missed it!

I'm pretty interested in, because my Yamaha CP60M only have 2 strings per note!
