Wurli vibrato not working but controls volume
« on: May 12, 2018, 02:00:33 PM »
Hello I'm new to the forum but I've been reading it for awhile as I've been restoring a newly acquired Wurlitzer 200a. When When I brought it home the first thing I did was go through the electronics and fixed a bad solder joint and replaced a fuse. After that it was sounding beautifully but the action was a nightmare so I took it apart, lube all the action parts and cleaned it all out. Once I got the action sorted out I put it all back together but the vibrato wouldn't work. The vibrato not only wouldn't work but it controls the volume(the volume knob still controls the volume as well). I opened it back up to look at the amp I realized there was another bad solder joint and the the wire for the vibrato that plugs into the five slot on the main board was unplugged. I fixed those two but there is still no vibrato and it still controls the volume. Also when playing through the aux out the sound is clean but when played through the speakers it is way distorted. This is how it sounded when I first brought it home so I figured it was the same fuse that needed to be replaced but I I tried jumping the fuse and it still occurs. Any assistance with these issues would be greatly appreciated and I apologize for the rambling but I just wanted to give all the information that I had. Thank you.

I solved the vibrato issue. After staring at the amp and preamp boards for way too long I finally spotted the problem which should have been one of the first things I checked. One of the vibrato pot terminals was bent and touching the terminal next to it. Now it sounds good through the aux but still heavily distorted through the speakers. Hopefully it's just a fuse but I'll soon find out.
