I've just started my first rework of a Hohner duo, and have a pile of questions.  I'll start with a set of questions regarding lubrication of the clav tuning gears.

While taking all of the old strings off of my duo, I noticed that several of the tuning gears are a bit stiff.  All of the gears turn, and I don't think anything is going to break, it's just a little annoying that part of the rotation is stiff for some of the gears.

Is it possible to lube these gears from the top or front (without removing the harp)?  Maybe some silicone spray could work down into the gear from the top?

If not, how hard is it to remove the harp?

Or should I just leave it alone?

Wouldn't lubing them cause them to loosen by themselves and untune it? (I have zero experience with clavs) I know you wouldn't do this on a guitar or other instrument with gears in the tuners...

That's a good point, steveo.  Thanks.

I'll just leave it, since they are working.
