RMI 300a issue
« on: June 02, 2018, 08:19:23 PM »
I got a cheap deal on an RMI 300a. It is one of the cleanest condition I've seen on one of these , but it only powers on and has no sound. It arrives next week. Considering that, it does power up, what would be the first thing I should look for to trouble shoot? I may just drop it off with my repair guy, but am hoping this is an easy fix.

I personally would start with the speakers - see if there is a loose or broken connection- also check headphone jack if this model has one, but I don't remember them having one. If there is hum/buzzing from the speakers, it's likely not them, but if they are completely silent, it could be.

Thanks,Steve. This model doesn't have a speaker. I took it to a repair guy. It was a loose wire to the power supply.$100 for the piano and $80 to repair.
This is one very clean original unit.

I'm not that big a fan of the RMI sound, but that is one beautiful looking instrument you've got there! Congrats!

I believe some of these relied on a volume pedal for output. Without the pedal the output was very low or not at all. Might check it out. Very nice find!!

All sorted. Thanks! It was a bad solder joint. Yes and I do have the volume and sustain pedal combo.
I also wasn't a real fan of these, but with vibrato and reverb, it does a really nice EP sound. This unit, other than the familiar vintage smell, is nearly mint.
