Helpinstill 64
« on: February 10, 2019, 11:56:16 AM »
Hello all,
New to the forum.  I recently got a helpinstill 64 from a friend of mine, but it needs a lot of work.  I’m guessing new hammers, felts, strings...  I’m not sure if I should try to fix it up, or just look for a different one.  Any advice?  Anyone know how much it would cost to fix up?
Thanks

First make sure that the piano is still able to hold its tuning.
If there are problems with the wrest plank and tuning pins then it may not be worth the effort.

My understanding of this piano is that Helpinstill will have purchased the core of the piano from Aeolian - or similar. So, if you ask around, you may be able to find the matching acoustic piano for a very small price to borrow parts from.
If the piano can't be saved then move the Helpinstill pickups and electronics to another piano.

I’m not really sure... I need to have a professional look at it.  There seems to be rust on the tuning pegs, and a few strings are way out of tune, but most of the strings are in good tune.  The hammers seem to be in so so condition too, but I really don’t know much about the insides of a piano...
